Josie
Quick: Violin and Mandolin
 |
Josie's
violin training began with classical violin lessons, but as a
teenager she wanted to find a way to play other styles of music.
As with most teenagers, her listening choice was rock and roll,
but there she never heard violin playing. She dabbled in guitar
and electric bass, but it just didn't have the allure that the
violin had. The pivotal moment came when she caught the Doobie
Brothers on TV and heard "Black Water." That's
when the realization began that there are no boundaries to violin
playing. This continued when she arrived at the University of
Denver and became introduced to the music of Jean Luc-Ponty
and Stephane Grappelli.
Josie's improvisational style is a combination of the influences
from her classical and jazz training. Another strong influence
Josie brings to Perpetual Motion is the interplay and
sensitivity of chamber music. She is a founding member of the
Frontera String Quartet. Josie is a private instructor
in traditional and Suzuki violin, and has taught jazz
and fiddle in addition to classical repertoire. |
